Registration, best time to visit, fitness tips and what to pack — everything you need before you set off for the four dhams.
The Char Dham Yatra is one of the most spiritually rewarding journeys in India. With a little planning, it is also one of the most comfortable.
Best time to go
The shrines usually open around Akshaya Tritiya (April/May) and close after Diwali (October/November). May–June and September–October offer the most pleasant weather; avoid peak monsoon weeks in July and August when landslides are common.
Registration
Every pilgrim must register with the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board before starting. Our team handles registration for all travellers booked with us.
Fitness & health
Kedarnath involves a 16–18 km trek and Yamunotri about 6 km. Start walking daily a month before your trip, and consult your doctor if you have heart or respiratory conditions. Ponies, palkis and helicopter services are available.
What to pack
- Warm layers, even in summer
- Rain jacket and waterproof shoes
- Personal medicines and a basic first-aid kit
- Valid photo ID and registration copy
With the right vehicle and an experienced hill driver, the yatra becomes a peaceful, memorable experience.
